This unit will allow students to explore what it was like for people to leave their homeland and travel to the United States in the hopes ofimproving the quality oftheir lives. Students will take field trips, read and respond to three pieces of literature of different genres, view photographs of immigrants, view an immigrant biographical film, conduct an interview with a first generation immigrant and examine primary documents. With this information, they will have the opportunity to contrast immigrant expectations with immigrant experience.
