October 14 - Dr. Gutzman at DHS

10/14/2008 - 2:15pm

Dr. Kevin Gutzman of Western Connecticut State Universsity, author of Who Killed the Constitution and The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Constitution, will be speaking on Tuesday October 14th at Danbury High School.  He will present at 2:15 p.m. for the high school faculty and again at 3:15 p.m. for middle school teachers and others.  He will be discussing "The 2008 Elections in the Shadow of the Constitution"  and "The American Revolution produced the world's first written constitutions adopted by the people's representatives.  Thomas Jefferson even said at the time that those constitutions were the Revolution's actual goal.  The U.S. Constitution, based on federalism, republicanism, and limited government, was understood as the keystone in the American system of written constitutions.  Today, all three branches of the federal government and both major political parties treat the Constitution -- the document that supposedly defines, and thus limits, the powers of federal officials -- as if it didn't exist.  Prof. Gutzman will describe the reasons why the federal Constitution was created and the reasons why he feels comfortable saying that it is dead, and then he will answer the question Who Killed the Constitution?"
